Talent Biography
Australian-Italian soprano Giuseppina Grech is an Opera Australia principal. She one of Australia’s most exciting and popular young vocal talents. In 2024, she sang Queen of the Night for Opera Australia in The Magic Flute at the Sydney Opera House.
At just 23, Giuseppina made her European debut as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at Teatro Moriconi in Italy and has since performed at major festivals and theatres across Europe. In Australia, Giuseppina regularly appears as a principal artist with Opera Australia in both mainstage and touring productions; she recently starred as Carlotta Guidicelli in The Phantom of the Opera to critical acclaim. Other roles for the national company include Frasquita in Carmen and Isabella/Ferdinand in El Kid. She also appeared in Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour productions of La Bohème and La Traviata, as well as Aida, Madama Butterfly, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Anna Bolena at the Sydney Opera House.
Giuseppina tours regularly with The Australian Tenors and the Proms Spectacular as their special guest artist.
“Giuseppina Grech was an arresting Queen of the Night. The Australian-Italian soprano exuded an air of pretentiousness and entertained with her condescending look over her dark glasses, glamorous black fur and exaggerated wide-brimmed hat. She tackled one of opera’s most challenging arias, Hell’s Vengeance Boils In My Heart, with ease. She nailed the coloratura virtuosity and top F with a nonchalant power and obvious conviction.” - Australian Arts Review, Bill Stephens OAM
